Working while you study
Stamp 2 students on an ILEP course are allowed to work in Ireland with limits — but finding a good job takes time, and the school doesn’t do it for you. Here’s what to actually expect.
Your working rights
- • Up to 20 hours per week during your study term.
- • Up to 40 hours per week during designated holiday periods (May–August and 15 December – 15 January).
- • You need a PPS number to be paid legally. Apply once you have proof of address — gov.ie PPS guide.
- • Minimum wage rates: see gov.ie National Minimum Wage.
What schools really offer
Many school websites mention “work support”, but in practice this is usually a CV workshop or a list of recruitment agencies — not a guaranteed job. Filter for schools that explicitly offer Job / CV support on the search page if this matters to you, and ask the school directly what is included.
Realistic first jobs
Cafés, restaurants, retail, hotels, cleaning and delivery are the most common roles for students who are still building their English. Tech/professional roles usually require higher English level and a PPS number already in hand. Expect to spend 2–6 weeks job hunting after you arrive.
