If you are choosing a Stamp 2 English school from Latin America, you will hear the same short version: Dublin is expensive; Limerick is cheaper. In 2026 that headline is still broadly true for rent — but it is easy to mix up two different money questions.

Housing pressure into autumn 2026
Ireland's student bed shortage is structural. In March 2026 the Government published a National Student Accommodation Strategy aiming for 42,000 new beds over nine years — but Minister James Lawless told the Irish Times there would be no new beds ready for September 2026. The plan is long-term; students starting in autumn still compete in a tight market.

Treat the figures as a directional rent signal: Dublin accommodation sits far above Limerick in these 2026 averages; food and transport gaps are smaller than rent.

What this means before you book a school
- Budget rent separately from tuition. Compare course price and weeks on GoStudy school cards, then add a realistic rent line for your city.
